For us, an image has always been connected to beauty, showing the scars of its own making. It used to be a negotiation with time, material, failure, chance. This image negotiation is now happening without us.
Through Comfort Room we propose novel perspectives–ways of holding multiplicities, not to form new weapons but to gather. Contemporary philosopher Yuk Hui argues the need for technodiversity, an urgency for a multiplicity of cosmotechnics, diverse ways of understanding and constructing technology across different cultures, rather than submit to a homogeneous, single trajectory.
Too often, Southeast Asia, its people, and its diverse diasporic perspectives are welcomed as contributions, rarely as the ones doing the theorising. Comfort Room exists to close that gap. We hold distinction, beauty and new ideas in a world that keeps trying to flatten us, and ask what is still worth imagining.
